Every time I hear "Canadian taxes are so much higher", I respond back with "really ? how much are you paying a month for health insurance?". I suggest a typical breadwinner with spouse + 2 dependents is probably paying $500 / mo + in health insurance premiums. Add that $6K / yr to your US tax bill, then compare it to your Canadian tax bill. ;)

Simple. If it wasn't for that ceiling the vast majority of the visas will go to applicants from the oversubscribed countries. Now this is not a bad thing if the visas are in unlimited supply. But since that's not the case, the country ceiling ensures that even people from smaller nations will get an equal oportunity to claim a visa before all the visa are grabbed by their BIG brothers and sisters. And what's more what ever is left is given back to the oversubscribed countries.
How can you call that unfair? Is it fair to deprive a person from a smaller country, equal chance to have go at his GC?
I understand how the current system prevents people of one nationality obtaining all the visas but I am not sure how it prevents any one group or sector monopolizing. Care to clarify?

I am not happy or sad about the memo. If H1b program is tightened or relaxed I will not be impacted anyway. Infact if more Indians are coming here more beneficial for Indian community.Simply my view is if H1b is regulated to minimise fraud the entire H1b program will get become legitimate and Increasing the cap is possible in future if needed

Asking for exemption from quota will cause this proposal to fail. My suggestion:
Of the 10,000 available visas per year for EB5, only about 3k to 4k are being used. How about if one buy a house and give a minimum $100,000 cash payment (not credit in US), he will get a temporary greencard from the EB5 visa pool. If after 2 years, the house is occupied and owned by the same person without problems with credit, he will get a permanent GC. This is on top of meeting the requirements of the category he is in.

I wish the statement is true.
I think your friends cousin got the card by mistake, that does not mean that it will see a significant moment for EB3 I. The only possibility is if USICIS wants to recapture the unused visa numbers over a period of time, then EB2 I, EB3 I all move together.

I got my canadian PR early this year and have another 3 months to land. I think other companies will follow MSFT and there will be a lot of consulting companies to support them as well. Some more avenues for Desi companies to exploit employees but I guess since we don't need to depend on employers to get our PR, they may not have their way the way they do here in the US.

You know what I used to think like this too.
President of India is put up in hotel and Saino&family in palace during Bhutan king coronation and they said Saino is personal guest of the royal family so may be that's ok.
Media on one hand calls this person homemaker (Priyanka Gandhi)and on the other hand reports that she is in Bangladesh having talks/dinner with Bangladesh PM with Bangladesh State providing security to her which looks like a official visit.Media doesn't mention in what nature is this offcial apart from NREG stuff which looks very fishy.
Just after UPA came to power Sonia goes to Russia in Reliance plane to meet with Putin.
I tried to find out why Sonia is in Russia but almost all the papers were excited about the reliance plane(could it be Anil's or Mukhesh's) but didn't say anything about Russia visit.I moved on and still don't what was it about though hoping it was something good for country and not revival of KGB connection(When U.S.S.R collapsed it was made public from KGB archive that Rajiv/Sonia were constant recipients of KGB money.?,it's anybody's guess ).
Then Sona/Rahul went to china and media was saying Sonia is trying to tell China that their family is back in power making it seem like monarchy within democracy.
When our company pays for cleaning agency to do the household cleaning for it's employees ,the help that comes to our house will take orders from us rite? Seems the same with some of these media guys.
What's interesting is people who call themselves cream of the top,(who say) can think clearly are willing to trust the future of their sons and well being of their daughters in the hands of this family.
Most sickening part was UPA leaders only concentrated on abusing, denying and accusing. They never told the voters if they did any work in last 5 years. I know there wasn't a lot to tell but still the whole campaign is kind of useless...and the role of media is amazing, they just covered 5 people Maino Antonia, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Advani & Modi as if nobody else exist in the country. Hello,
My labor is approved in August 2007 and I have approved I140.It is likely that my company might declare chapter 11(bankrupt).I have not yet filed my I1485 yet as dates are not current for my PD.
My question is can I port my I140 to a different company B and extend my H1 based on the approved I140 from company A.
If yes, What documents do I need from company A to get this done.There were some posts which said I cannot port without having my 485 filed and pending approval for 180 days.is this true?
Can someone provide some suggestion what would be good approach.

Just because no one can trace you on an anonymous forum please do not say anything that comes to your mind. These are hard times. Please chip in with genuine solutions else keep to yourself.
This constant battering of consulting companies is not doing any good. Yes they exist and have existed legally for a while. Do not take advantage of this memo to vent out your own frustrations. It puts us all at risk and hurts the entire image of people working on H1b especially Indians.
Most of us here are very educated (usually a Masters). Lets respect that fact and contribute to meaningful resolution. I suspect a number of anti-immigrant Indians(who are permanant residents or citizens) are on this forum (you can tell from the number of posts they made and the reds they have received). They are only trying to provoke us. Do not take the bait. Please please ignore them.

I think the reason people get defensive is because love for your country is an emotional topic (some might call it patriotism)...just as love for your mother (or parents) or religion or political party etc. These are deeply personal issues. When you question any of these, expect fireworks.
Many people migrate for better opportunity/ better lifestyle. Is that enough reason to question why they still love their original country? I might move from Lucknow to Bombay (for those of you who don't know these places, please substitute Wichita to New York) for the same reasons. Does it mean I stop being nostalgic about Lucknow? or stop loving it? How does migrating affect my love for the place one was born and brought up in?
Needless to mention there are people from different countries in this forum. So lets refrain from implying that people who immigrate should not love their original motherland/fatherland etc.

It will be a waste of money. The US does not have to allow any immigration if it chooses so. Do you realize that getting a GC is not a right, but a privelege? It's a matter of grace and no court has jurisdiction to review if government says "no".
